Number of municipalities - 11
Population - 317 654
Administrative centre - Pazardzhik city

Pazardzhik District is located in the centre of southern Bulgaria, crossed by Trans-European Corridors N: 8 and N: 10, connecting Western Europe with the Middle East and Middle Asia.

The diverse relief promotes the electric power generation by means of hydro power plants and cascade chains of hydro power plants and is a prerequisite to the development of ski-tourism. The diverse and abundant forests foster the timber industry and the lowland areas are perfect for the development of modern agriculture. Geothermal sources are conductive to the development of balneology tourism.

Agriculture plays a central role in the district's economy. Vegetables, oil-bearing crops, orchards and vinicultures are of the greatest importance. The existence of natural surface and groundwater as well as man-made water reservoirs makes it possible for 63% of the arable land to be irrigated freely.

The district is both industrial and agrarian, with industrial output playing a dominant role.
